About Theme Ar15 Builds
Themed build AR-15s have become increasingly popular among firearms enthusiasts for several reasons. First and foremost, they offer a unique and personalized touch to an already versatile and customizable firearm platform. A shooter can make a statement with their firearm and add personality by choosing a lower receiver with a custom theme, such as the Sharps Bros. Overthrow or The Jack.
Themed builds can also be a fun and creative way to express creativity and showcase their styles. The Jack, Overthrow, Showdown, Hellbreaker, Warthog
Below is a breakdown of the 5 Sharps Bros Lower receivers in the order we intend to build them. As you’ll see, we are making progress, but we will update this post as the other builds are finished.
The Sharps Bros. “The Jack” receiver is a custom-themed AR-15 lower receiver with a distinctive, three-dimensional design inspired by the playing card character “Jack the Ripper.” The design includes several elements that resemble the character’s top hat, trench coat, and knife.
The Jack receiver was first introduced by Sharps Bros. in 2015 and quickly gained a following. The design was praised for its unique and striking appearance and high-quality construction and functionality.
In addition to its distinctive design, The Jack receiver features several functional improvements over standard AR-15 lower receivers. These include an enlarged magazine well for faster reloading and an integrated trigger guard for added strength and durability.
The Jack Build
“The Jack” lower receiver seemed like a great place to start. Our team had ideas the minute we saw the custom receiver. Inspired by the infamous “Jack the Ripper” playing card symbol, The Jack lower receiver is a testament to the fusion of art and functionality. The decision we came to was to build a 13.3″ barrel pistol-length AR-15 chambered in .300 Blackout. Selecting the remaining parts after the receiver took almost 4 weeks and some sourcing. We added a few custom pieces from Unique ARs, another awesome company to work with. For a complete list of parts, check out “The Jack” parts post we did before we started the build.

The Overthrow receiver was first introduced by Sharps Bros. in 2016 and quickly became a popular product.
The Sharps Bros. “Overthrow” receiver is a custom-themed AR-15 lower receiver with an open mag well helmet design, battle-worn dents, sword gashes, and crack lines.
With some ideas, we generated doing “The Jack” build, some great team concepts, and some ideas the Unique Ars team brought to the table, the “Overthrown” was equally as fun as the previous build. We opted to go with an 18″ barrel chambered in .223 Wylde.
Overthrow AR-15 Build
With the “Overthrow” build, we wanted a longer-range rifle than the previous .300 Blackout build. We also decided to Cerakote both the top and bottom receivers. We opted for a “sword” themed custom Unique ARs handguard, which they did the Cerakote on both the handguard and receiver set. While the Cerakote was being done, we sourced the balance of the Overthrow parts.

The showdown was the hardest of the receivers to get our hands on; it took months. Further, we were having trouble getting some background on it. We contacted Sharps Bros., and in a day of dying customer support, we were pleasantly surprised to get a reply from the founder John Sharps in less than a couple of hours. It seems their level of customer support matches the quality and attention to detail of their products.
John Sharps’s reply to our inquiry about the background of the “Showdown” was;
Showdown was mainly inspired by the desire to step it up and create something amazing for our final face design – and the Showdown warrior seemed like a great project. It took 10 years to design and release the 5 designs: Hellbreaker, Warthog, The Jack, Overthrow and Showdown. Showdown completes the collection. It’s by far the most difficult, over two hours of machine time per unit.John Sharps- Sharps Bros
Sticking with Unique ARs for the custom handguard and their top-notch design and Cerakote team, we completed the lower and “handguard” Cerakoting. We know we’ll be going with a 16″ barrel and the parts above, but we are still sourcing the balance of the parts. This will be updated as the build progresses.
The Hellreaker is next up for us, and we are discussing concepts, but we won’t start until the showdown is wrapped up.
The Sharps Bros. Hellbreaker receiver is a custom-themed AR-15 lower receiver with a distinctive, three-dimensional design inspired by the P-40 Warhawk, a World War II-era fighter plane.
The design includes several elements that resemble the plane’s shark-like nose, teeth, and eyes.
The Hellbreaker receiver was first introduced by Sharps Bros. in 2014. The design was praised for its unique and striking appearance and high-quality construction and functionality. Looking around the web, you can find some pretty amazing AR-15 builds featuring the Hellbreaker.
The last but certainly not least of our themed lower builds will be the “Warthog.”
The Sharps Bros. Warthog receiver is a custom-themed AR-15 lower receiver that features a distinctive, three-dimensional design inspired by the face of the A-10 Warthog aircraft. The design includes elements resembling the aircraft’s iconic features, such as the snout, eyes, and teeth.
The Warthog receiver was first introduced by Sharps Bros. in 2013 and quickly became a popular product among firearms enthusiasts.
