The Tisas Zigana PX-9 is a relatively new addition to the Tisas line of pistols produced by the Turkish company Trabzon Gun Industry Corp. (also known as Tisas). Where does SDS Imports come in?

You may have heard people refer to the Tisas Zigana PX-9 as an SDS Zigana PX-9? I know I have.

People may mistake SDS Imports as the maker of the Tisas Zigana PX-9 because SDS Imports is the exclusive importer of the Tisas Zigana series of firearms in the United States..

SDS Imports is a firearms importer that imports a variety of firearms from different manufacturers, including Tisas, a Turkish-based firearms manufacturer. The Tisas Zigana PX-9 is a handgun manufactured by Tisas.. Although, it is imported and distributed by SDS Imports in the United States.

Confusion may also arise because some individuals may not be familiar with the nuances of the firearms industry, including the roles of manufacturers, importers, and distributors. As a result, they may assume that the company that imports the firearm is the same company that manufactures it. Additionally, some retailers may refer to the Tisas Zigana PX-9 as an SDS Imports firearm to simplify the branding and marketing of the product.

Unbox the Tisas Zigana PX-9

The Tisas Zigana PX-9 makes a solid first impression. The gun comes in a co-branded hard case with SDS Imports and Tisas on the case. The hard case is an impressive first impression. The firearm sits surrounded by foam in a Kydex holster.

The sleek black finish of the pistol caught my eye immediately, and I could feel the weight of the firearm as I lifted it from the box. It’s a nicely balanced weight. The package included two 15-round magazines, a user manual, cleaning rods, two additional grip configurations, a speed loader, and the holster—a better-than-average haul.

I examined the PX-9 closely and was impressed by the attention to detail. The polymer frame had a comfortable and ergonomic grip, and the textured surface provided a secure hold. The slide was easy to manipulate. The Picatinny rail was a welcome addition, allowing me to attach accessories such as a flashlight or laser sight easily.

Barrel & Slide

The Tisas Zigana PX-9 features a 4.46-inch barrel and a slide made of quality steel. The barrel uses a cold hammer forging process, a precision tool to create the barrel’s rifling. This process begins with a highly accurate and durable barrel that can withstand thousands of rounds without losing accuracy.

The slide of the PX-9 is also made from quality steel with a durable finish that resists wear and corrosion. In addition, the slide features front and rear serrations that provide a secure grip for manipulating the slide, even with gloves or in wet conditions.

One unique feature of the PX-9’s slide is its “eagle claw” serrations. These serrations are located near the rear of the slide and provide an additional grip surface for racking the slide. This feature is handy for those with weaker hand strength or who prefer an alternative grip for manipulating the slide.

Finish

The PX-9 is available in multiple finishes, including black, FDE, and OD green, each with a matte finish that resists wear and corrosion.

The finish of the PX-9 is applied using a process called “Tenifer,” which involves immersing the firearm’s steel components in a salt bath. This process creates a tough and wear-resistant surface layer of iron carbide. The Tenifer finish is also highly corrosion-resistant, making it an excellent choice for a firearm exposed to harsh environments.

In addition to the Tenifer finish, the PX-9 also features a nitride-coated slide. Nitride coating is a process that involves treating the steel slide with a high-temperature gas that penetrates the surface of the metal. This process creates a surface layer that is extremely hard and wear-resistant, providing additional protection against wear and corrosion.

Overall, the Tisas Zigana PX-9’s finish is a high-quality feature contributing to the firearm’s durability and longevity. The Tenifer finish and nitride coating ensure that the PX-9 will withstand the rigors of use in various environments, while the matte finish adds to the firearm’s sleek and modern look.

Frame

The Tisas Zigana PX-9 frame is made from a high-strength polymer material that is lightweight, durable, and easy to maintain. In addition, the polymer material used in the frame is can withstand the rigors of daily use while providing a comfortable and ergonomic grip for the shooter.

Tisas Zigana PX-9 frame

One unique feature of the PX-9 frame is its modular design. As a result, the frame can be easily disassembled, allowing for easy maintenance and customization of the firearm. The modular design also allows for easy replacement of individual components should they become damaged or worn over time.

The PX-9 frame features a Picatinny rail for attaching accessories such as a flashlight or laser sight. The rail is located under the barrel and is compatible with most standard Picatinny accessories.

Grips

One unique feature of the PX-9 grips is their design, which incorporates a series of finger grooves that provide a natural and secure grip for the shooter’s hand. The grooves are located in the front and back of the grip and on the sides, ensuring the hand is securely in place. The grip surface of the PX-9 is textured to provide a non-slip surface, even in wet or slippery conditions.

In addition to the standard grips, the PX-9 also comes with interchangeable backstraps that allow you to customize the grip size to your hand size and preference. In addition, the backstraps are easy to swap out, allowing the shooter to experiment with different sizes until they find the perfect fit.

Magazine

Tisas Zigana PX-9 MAGAZINES

The Tisas Zigana PX-9 double-stack magazine holds 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition. This high-capacity magazine is well-suited for personal defense or law enforcement use. Made from a durable steel material.

The magazine release on the PX-9 is located on the left-hand side of the frame, allowing for easy and intuitive operation. The magazine release is easily accessible, even for shooters with smaller hands or those who may be wearing gloves.

Overall, the Tisas Zigana PX-9 magazine is a reliable and high-capacity component that contributes to the firearm’s overall performance and effectiveness.

Safety’s

The PX-9 has both manual and trigger safety, providing a redundant safety system that ensures safe operation and handling.

  • Trigger safety: The trigger safety is located on the center of the trigger and must be fully depressed before the trigger can be pulled. This feature prevents the trigger from being pulled accidentally.
  • Loaded chamber indicator: This is a safety feature that allows you to visually and tactilely determine if there is a round in the chamber of the gun.

The combination of manual and trigger safety ensures that the shooter has multiple layers of safety and control when handling the firearm. This is particularly important when the shooter may be under stress or not have complete control over the gun.

Sights

Up to this point, I thought I liked everything about this handgun—the PX-9 has black sights. They appear to be quality, but I (and my eyes) do not enjoy solid black sights. So, this was a miss in my book!

Trigger

The PX-9 features a striker-fired trigger system. Like many handguns with a trigger safety, the PX-9’s trigger travel (take-up) is a bit longer than I like. However, the trigger pulls weight on the PX-9 was nice. It has a nice clean break, steadily in the 5’s but feels a bit lighter. Further, it has a short reset, allowing for fast follow-up shots and improved accuracy.

Some shooters may find the travel (take-up) distracting or uncomfortable, but others may find it a useful indicator of trigger control. If you’re new to shooting, you will likely get used to it quickly. More experienced shooters will take longer or ultimately explore trigger options.

Aftermarket Parts Compatibility

The Tisas Zigana PX-9 has some aftermarket parts and accessories available to enhance its performance and functionality, but you will likely have to do some digging. Here are a few we’ve heard about but have yet to test.

Tisas Zigana PX-9 Holsters

  • Urban Carry Holster: A unique hybrid IWB leather holster made for the Tisas / SDS Imports ZiGANA PX9 providing the safety and security of Kydex with the comfort and durability of premium leather.

Tisas Zigana PX-9 Sight Options

  • XS Sights: Although we have not reviewed these, they do make night sights specifically for the Zigana PX-9.

Review Wrap

In conclusion, the trigger does have some degree of take-up before the breaking point; this can be managed with practice and does not significantly detract from the overall performance of the firearm. Particularly because, overall, the trigger feels really good regarding break, reset, and pull weight.

Tisas Zigana PX-9 9mm

My bigger item would be the sights, I couldn’t get used to solid black sights, but I do have LASIK that can be problematic on some sights. I would swap those out, but there are reasonable options for the Zigana PX-9, and maybe you wouldn’t feel the need.

Regarding the PX-9 as a carry firearm for self-defense, it’s important to choose a gun that you feel comfortable and confident with. It’s also important to consider factors such as the size and weight of the gun, its capacity, and the availability of holsters and accessories for it. I can see how some would choose the PX-9.

That being said, overall, our impression is it’s a great value and a quality firearm!
