History of the M&P9 PC Sheild EZ
The Smith & Wesson M&P9 PC Shield EZ is a relatively new addition to the Smith & Wesson line of firearms, having been introduced in 2020. The M&P9 PC Shield EZ is an extension of the popular M&P Shield series, which was introduced in 2012 and quickly became one of the most popular concealed carry handguns on the market. The M&P Shield series was designed to offer a compact, lightweight option for concealed carry without sacrificing performance or reliability. The M&P9 PC Shield EZ takes this concept a step further by providing additional features such as an ergonomic grip, adjustable fiber optic sights, and a Picatinny rail, making it an attractive option for both experienced shooters and those who are new to firearms. Despite its relative youth, the M&P9 PC Shield EZ has quickly gained a reputation as a reliable and high-performance handgun.
Unboxing the Shield EZ 9mm
Unboxing the M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Gold TS# 13227 is an exciting experience for any gun enthusiast. The gun comes packaged in a sturdy cardboard box with the Smith & Wesson logo prominently on the front.
Inside the box, you’ll find the gun, an excellent portable cleaning kit, two magazines, a user manual, and a lock for safe storage. As you remove the gun from its packaging, you can’t miss the gold finish; and great looking lightening cut slide, the standout features of this gun that add style to the overall great-looking design. As many of you know from my M&P LE Tradein makeovers, I’m a fan of adding some personality to some of my handguns.
At first glance, I was a bit concerned about the size. I’ve had and handled sub and mini compacts that weren’t comfortable because of how small they were. The Shield EZ was a great fit with a comfortable grip, which feels secure in your hand. The gun is well-balanced and lightweight, making it easy to handle and comfortable to get a secure shooting grip. Overall, unboxing the M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Gold TS# 13227 is a great preamble that sets the stage for what I anticipate will be an enjoyable shooting experience.

M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Features
Although I am a fan of the M&P line of firearms, I have never handled a Shield EZ. So, I’m excited to cover the features of the M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Gold TS# 13227. To this point, I’m impressed by the M&P9 PC Shield EZ’s unique gold finish and overall appearance. Below we’ll break down the features of the gun in detail and cover my pros and cons.
Trigger:
From an esthetic perspective, the trigger adds some style points for sure. Performance Center action, crisp, with tactile and audible trigger reset.
With other M&P 9mm’s I’ve had, the factory trigger wasn’t a great selling point. The travel and reset are longer than I care for, and they break heavier than I like. I typically install an Apex trigger, which can be fine-tuned to the specifications I want. Although clearly, Smith and Wesson have made some adjustments to the trigger.
The trigger on the M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Gold TS# 13227 has a crisp and clean trigger pull that breaks cleanly. The travel was much less than I recall from the M&P9, and the reset also seemed shorter. For many, the trigger pull weight (which averages 5.5 pounds) is light enough to ensure smooth operation but heavy sufficient to ensure safe use. I plan on exploring options to lighten it while keeping the good-looking factory trigger. For those interested, I will keep you posted.
Sights:
The M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Gold TS# 13227 features HI-VIZ® Litewave H3™ Tritium/Litepipe Sights that make it easy to acquire targets quickly and accurately. Preferring 3-dot sights to red dot sights, and having had Lasik surgery, I really like a bright sight picture and these sights delver. I would consider them for some of my other handguns. The fiber optic sights are easy to see in low light conditions, making them ideal for self-defense and other tactical situations.
Picatinny Rail:
The Smith and Wesson M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Gold TS# 13227 also features a Picatinny rail that allows users to attach accessories such as lights or lasers to the gun. This rail is located on the underside of the gun’s frame, making it easy to add and remove accessories as needed. The rail is also compatible with a wide range of aftermarket accessories, giving shooters plenty of customization options.
As we test lights we will update this section with best fitting lights and lasers.
Magazines:
The M&P9 PC Shield EZ 9mm Gold TS# 13227 comes with two magazines with a capacity of 8 rounds. These magazines are easy to load and insert into the gun’s grip, and they feed reliably with no malfunctions. The magazines are also easy to disassemble for cleaning and maintenance.
Note: The magazine has a lever right below the top of the magazine (pictured above) that releases spring tension on the spring and makes loading the magazine a lot easier than a typical magazine.
